🎉🎄November & December: An Impactful Finish to the Year

EA Barcelona is excited to wrap up an incredible 2025! Over the past two months, we’ve run an Altruismo Racional book club, hosted a Probably Good career workshop on finding high-impact roles, the EA Connect watch party, and closed the year with a social gathering to reflect on wins, share ongoing projects, and look ahead. Together, these activities helped us deepen our thinking, support each other’s goals, and strengthen the connections that make our community thrive.

Community Spotlight 🔦 Karoteno’s December Fundraising Campaign!

You may remember Karoteno, the new giving platform founded by EA Barcelona community member Guillem Lajara, with the ambitious goal of normalising effective giving in Spain. This December, Karoteno took a big step forward with its first matching fundraising campaign, supported by the community and amplified by a zambomba solidaria put on by Pablo Rosado in his hometown of Jerez.

Thanks to the generosity of many contributors, over €6,000 was raised and redirected toward highly effective charities in global health, animal welfare, and safeguarding the future of humanity. We’d like to extend a huge congratulations to Guillem on a very successful first campaign - and thank you to everyone involved in making this happen!

“Altruismo Racional” Book Club 📚

Throughout November-December, EA Barcelona hosted a book club on Altruismo Racional by Pablo Melchor, with a small, engaged group and thoughtful, high-quality discussions about how to do more to help others. Shout-out to our star facilitators, and thank you to everyone who participated with such curiosity and generosity!

Probably Good Workshop 🔨

In mid-November, Rocky from Probably Good led 12 of us through the SELF framework (Significance, Efficacy, Leverage, and Personal Fit). Using concrete examples and targeted questions, we explored how to evaluate potential roles through these four lenses - all with the aim of moving closer to a high-impact career.

EA Connect Viewing 📺

On the first weekend of December, we hosted an in-person viewing of the EA Connect conference. 12 participants enjoyed engaging with high-quality talks and real-life conversations which were just as valuable. Topics covered AI, animals and careers (and even popcorn 🍿).

It was great to see new connections forming - a big thank you to everyone who came along and helped make the event run smoothly!

Coworking at Sopa ☕️

We wrapped up the year with our final coworking session at Sopa. We exchanged ideas on community-building strategies for 2026 - from strengthening EA in Barcelona and at universities, to engaging more with AI ethics communities. It was a productive and enjoyable close to the year at our favourite Poblenou spot.

End-of-year Social! 🥳

We finished off 2025 with a lovely end-of-year social event - a relaxed evening of good food, music, and conversation. We shared a community circle where people reflected on wins and learnings from 2025, talked about projects that could use support, and looked ahead to plans and goals for 2026, both personal and professional. A huge thanks to everyone who came, and especially to Anthony for hosting (once again!)
